Jetsam are a project band, making work on commission and in collaboration. A long standing relationship between the five musicians forms the basis of a collaborative practice that allows the band to explore diverse themes and approaches to making. Coming from acoustic origins, each musician now works with their own electronic setup alongside field recordings and occasional synths.

FOUL AREAS: KILVE, SEA PALLING

Foul Areas is a series of pieces created and performed by Jetsam in response to the coastal landscapes of the UK. Through the transformation of nautical depth soundings of wrecks and other foul grounds into specific sonic frequencies, Jetsam have created a series of tunings and modes which are site-specific to each location where the data was collected. These include the Severn Estuary (Kilve) off the coast of Minehead in Somerset and Sea Palling in North Norfolk. Combining the tunings with seismic data from the areas, Jetsam have created ‘landscape scores’, which form the structural basis of the work.
